Blackdown Tablelands

This Sunday we went about 1.5 hours east of Emerald to Blackdown Tableland National Park. (Side note to the story: on saturday, we all went out to do some shopping around emerald and I saw kids everywhere that I either taught dance or saw at the pool or supply taught at their school). So after entering the park and driving awhile up this steep, winding road we stopped at the information station just at the same time that another car was stopping and out comes one of my hip-hop girls. We also saw Michelle's trainer on one of the hikes....just can't get away! We did a couple of 4km hikes and had a nice picnic lunch. The weather was so perfect, there was a cool crispness in the air, so great for hiking! Here is a picture at the end of the first hike. The water was quite swampy and so not very inviting to swim.
Here are some aboriginal paintings that we saw on the "culture" loop. Apparently they painted their hands and boomerangs.
The lookout over the tablelands.

Here we are at the lookout! At the end of one of our hikes we came to a shole bunch of rock pools and the loudest noise. Brendon and I thought it was a bunch of birds while we were walking towards the rock pools but it turned out to be frogs. It sounded like the strangest techno song...I have never heard frogs like that before.

When we left the park at about 4:30pm we saw probably 6 kangaroos (they come out around dusk) at the side of the road.

So, we are down to 2 more weeks of work!!! We are both very anxious to start our travels. I've had a total of 7 days of supply teaching and hoping for a couple more days before we leave. This weekend is the Emerald State School Fete and the Multicultural Festival.

Talk to you all soon!
