Phuket Town, Thailand
By: Brendon
After Phi Phi we headed over to Phuket Province and stayed in Phuket Town. The plan was to stay 2 nights in the town and then go to Hat Patong on the west coast of the province. Well the weather wasn't great again so we decided to just stay the other 2 nights in town as well before flying up to Bangkok. We mostly took this time to just relax and we even went out to the movies!! I know not exactly a Thai cultural thing but that's just what we felt like doing. One interesting thing about the movies is that before each movie they play the National Anthem and everyone stands up...so of course we did too. We also visited about 5 jewelry shops because a tuk-tuk driver was showing us the "sights"...aka making commision for taking tourists to all the shops. Well we didn't buy any jewelry but we did end up buying some souvenirs and we also went to our first Thai temple where there was a giant sitting Buddha (about 40 feet high). Other than that we just hung around the guesthouse as it seemed to be raining all the time. We did find a great little restaurant with great food. The Thai ladies were so kind as well. One time I went there to pick up some food and the one lady gave me 4 bananas that she brought from her house.
The view from the top floor of Talang Guest House.
We were rewarded a ride from our Tuk-Tuk driver to Big Buddha after we were dragged around to all the different jewellery shops for about 2 hours.
At the temple.
