Capella

This Saturday I had to get up early to teach a class of Ballet (because the other teacher couldn't teach this week). The pool decided to call me at 7:45am to tell me that they didn't need me to work during the day, so we all had the day off (Charles, Michelle, Brendon and myself) which hasn't happened in awhile. We heard about this Camp Draft happening in Capella, a small town 50km north of Emerald and thought we would check it out. Camp Draft, you ask? Well...this is a competition between jackaroos and jillaroos (equivalent to what we would call a cowboy or cowgirl). The point of the event is for the person riding the horse to direct the cow around the circuit. Basically it was the horse and rider chasing the cow around 2 posts and then through another 2 posts and trying to control which way it would move. We definitely stuck out of the crowd in our shorts, sandals and tank tops. EVERYONE else there was wearing jeans, a plaid long sleeve shirt, a cowboy hat and boots, even all the kids in the crowd.

Here are the competitors lined up waiting for their turn.

A group of jackaroos sitting up on their horse trailer, having a drink and watching the event.

Once we were finished at the draft, we went over to the Capella Aquatic Centre. For such a small town, it is a beautiful pool area (almost like a mini resort). The town gets small town government funding to be able to afford things like this.

Both Brendon and Charles had a go at the kiddie water slide!

Brendon,
It looks like you could be in training for the skeleton race in the olympics only that is an ice slide.

Hey Guys,
Are you going to Europe eventually? Are you getting accents to show off when you get back, I guess it would be hard to tell. Australia seems a lot more fun then lets say...Kingston. Enjoy your new car! Thats totally awesome. Is there any new types of crazy food? Or is is just very similar.
Love your brother and friend,
Dan
